It was a bit of a struggle for us on Day 3 at Galway with
just a couple of places and no winners. Turbojet ran a cracker to reward each way support (adv
9/1) and with a better jump at the last he might have won. Lilly The Lioness
showed up well for a long way but she was fading when unseating Conor Brassil.
Highway Royal was bitterly disappointing and he also faded late on under Robbie
Dunne.
A Toi Phil was given far too much to do by Bryan Cooper but
he managed to stay on well late in the day to grab 4th and land our each way
bets (adv 14/1). Ontheiflist ran a cracker to be beaten narrowly into 3rd, but unfortunately
a non runner meant only two places got paid each way. Micras just couldn’t get
in from a wide draw and couldn’t land a blow despite keeping on well. Below are
my thoughts on Day 4.

RACE 1
A very tricky looking beginners’ chase to get things under
way and not a betting heat for me.
RACE 2
I tipped up Don’t Touch It at odds of 40/1 at Punchestown in
2016 (read
here) and he did the business in fine style. He is a horse I have a huge
amount of time for and he has to have outstanding claims here. He is the
highest rated of the market leaders over timber and he has yet to finish out of
the money in six starts over fences.
He gained his second win over the bigger obstacles when
winning a handicap chase at Punchestown on his last start and he comes into
this race a fresh horse. Barry Geraghty takes the ride and he has already
ridden a couple of winners at the festival this week. He won’t mind a drop of
rain, Jessica Harrington’s horses continue to run well and at odds of 2/1 Don’t
Touch it is a confident selection.

Only 6 runners here and nothing appeals as being especially
overpriced. No bet.
RACE 6
The big race on Day 4 at Galway is the Guinness Galway
Hurdle and the one I like at a decent price is the John Quinn trained Project Bluebook.
This English raider is owned by JP McManus and it looks as though he has been
laid out for a crack at this valuable contest. This 4yo son of Sinndar was a
Grade 2 winner at Fairyhouse on his last hurdle run and he also ran a cracker
in the Fred Winter off a mark of 138 back in March at Cheltenham.
He is only 3lb higher here off 141 and he should be plenty fit
enough after a very encouraging prep run on the flat at Catterick last month.
His trainer John Quinn has been in great form in recent weeks, sending out
three winners in the past fortnight. Brian Hughes has travelled across the
Irish Sea to take the ride and he has 11 wins and 22 top 4 finishes from just
40 rides for Quinn in the past 5 seasons (an astonishing 83% frame hitting
strike rate). He showed at Cheltenham that a stiff test suits, he won’t mind a
drop of rain and at odds of 16/1 he has the credentials to run a massive race.

RACE 7
Bog War looks an interesting contender here off a pound
lower than when scoring at the festival here in 2015. Liam Cusack’s 7yo son of
Rakti hasn’t been sighted since finishing down the field in a handicap hurdle
at Punchestown last November and his fitness has to be taken on trust. However,
he has gone well fresh on a couple of occasions and Cusack has had a winner
recently so his horses are in good shape.
Leigh Roche has been booked for the ride and he knows this
fella inside out. He was on board for his win last year and he has guided him
to victory on three occasions. Bog War has been handed a good draw in stall 4
and Cusack will be pleased to see that the rain has arrived. If Bog war is
fully fit he could be a force to be reckoned with and at odds of 22/1 he is
worth chancing e/w for small stakes.

Only 7 runners for this bumper and I will just watch. No
