Harris To Have A Super Sunday At Chepstow

Today's selection comes from Chepstow, where local trainer Ron Harris sends Supersta in an attempt to bring his nine race losing run to an end. This gelded son of Pivotal has been an expensive horse to follow, but there is reason to believe he can go close today.

He ran an extremely eyecatching race last time out. He stood still in the stalls and gave his rivals many lengths at the start. He latched on to the rear of the field and looked to be still travelling well a couple of furlongs out. He was all dressed up with nowhere to go though, and by the time he was switched to make his effort the leaders had flown. He still managed to finish sixth, less than three lengths behind the winner and closing all the way to the line.

That was the first time his mark had dropped to a level that allowed him to enter a class 6 handicap, and indeed he was dropped another pound for that last effort to 64. Considering he has gone close in better class races off a higher mark he looks as though he is becoming a very well treated horse, and he tries his luck in a class 6 event again today.

As was mentioned earlier this is his trainer's local course, and with the cheekpieces reapplied (ran well in them at Wolves in March) and with Royston Ffrench (2/14 for Harris last 5 years) taking over in the saddle, surely Supersta will run a big race. Hopefully he doesn't repeat his antics at the start, and if he gets away on level terms he will hopefully go very close. At his current odds of 14/1 he looks worthy of a little support each way.

Selection: 3.40 Chepstow               Supersta (e/w) 14/1
